There is nothing worse than finding cat litter all over your floor and in hidden places. It is important to start the training as early as possible, litter tray and toilet training cats can be a very long process, you will require patience and resilience.
Initially you will need to buy a litter tray. This needs to be of a size in which the cat can comfortably turn around. It should be put in a room in the house which is easy for the cat to access as well as being private and out of the way. You should not place the tray in the same room as which the cat sleeps or eats; they are clean animals just like we are. Another consideration is that the litter tray may produce odours.
If your cat has never used a litter tray before then it is important to give them some time to get use to it. Any cat can be trained given enough time. If you plan to toilet train your cat then it is a lot quicker if you have a spare bathroom.
