The Brooks Cascadia 4 has been deemed a Top Trail Running shoe by men and editors of athletic magazines. The Cascadia is available in both men and women’s styles and comes in a wide range of colors. The Cascadia was released in February of this year and the model will be discontinued this December. The next model will debut in February 2010. Features of the Cascadia include a BioMoGo midsole that is comfortable and durable. The outsole grips the ground easily, and handles slippery surfaces well. We did find that many reviewers found this shoes laces to come loose too easily.

If you need a durable water and moisture proof shoe, consider the Salomon XT Wings GTX. Unlike the Cascadia, the single pull laces stayed tied as your hit the trail. The outer portion of the shoe is crafted out of Gore-Tex lining and the shoe is ideal for hard terrain, snow, and pavement. You may choose to go to a specialty shoe store or an athletic apparel store to have your feet assessed. This doesn’t mean that you must purchase your hiking shoes there, but you can get a good idea of the type of shoe you need. Take your hiking backpack with you, so you can see how comfortable the shoes are with weight on your back. If you have low arches you will need shoes that arch up or have insoles with high arches. If you have very wide feet you must make sure your shoes are wide enough to provide comfort and prevent rubbing against the side of your feet.

Retailing for a little over $100, the Hedgehog is lightweight and has waterproof breathable Gore-Tex covering. The outsole is sturdy with top-quality traction. The Hedgehog gets its name from the speedy animal, and is best used for covering trails at a fast pace, crawling along icy riverbanks, or jumping into a kayak to cross a body of water.

These are bulkier solutions, though they offer the widest range of options and are usually the most affordable. Remember, as the size of the laptop decreases, the cost of the laptop increases.

Business Users:

Business users usually demand the utmost in portability, unless the laptop will be only for limited office use and nothing more. For the on-the-go businessperson, a thin and light model is the best option. These are smaller and lighter than other computing options, though they have smaller viewable space.
