Laptop Computers- Variation Vs Desktops And Their History

Computers have significantly shrunk in size as the years have passed. Consider the fact that a mere fifty years ago a single computer could take up multiple rooms and now people regularly take their computers on airplanes. While Moore’s law predicted the phenomenal rise in computing power, it did not transparently predict the shrinking of computers during the same time. Even ten years ago, laptop computers were considered to be niche machines. Today they outsell desktops in the United States and are set to overtake them worldwide in the next few years. That is because there is little that a desktop computer can do that can’t also be managed by a laptop computer.

If you’re thinking of getting a laptop, you’ve probably made a wise decision. First of all, all the components of a laptop are essentially the same as a desktop.

There is a view screen, or monitor. It will be smaller on a laptop than on a desktop. There will be a keyboard. This keyboard will probably not be ergonomically correct, as some desktop keyboards claim to be.

There will be pointer tool, or mouse. You can purchase an external mouse that runs from a USB cable to your computer or you can use the touch pad or track ball that comes with the laptop.

The interior of a laptop is just as tricked out as a desktop. They are a little harder to upgrade, but you get enough processing power, memory, and video and audio cards to do most consumer grade computing tasks.

What singles out laptops from desktops is their portability. A desktop has a heavy tower, a heavier monitor, and a separate keyboard and mouse.

You don’t even have to plug it in if you don’t want to; you can just open it up and power it on. This is because laptops run on both battery and AC power. A good battery should last about two or three years with proper care. It will give you a charge for two to five hours depending on what you are doing. This isn’t even an option with a desktop. Therefore, if you are looking to buy a computer in the near future you shouldn’t hesitate, go out and get your laptop computer today.
