Right, BlackBerry is set up with Microsoft Exchange Server and sports the new fangled intelligent push email – the iPhone does not. Take that! So what does this mean to you? Well when email is sent to a BlackBerry, then your new phone message is downloaded instantly – then and an LED on the phone flashes to notify you that you have a new message. It’s all instantaneous and you don’t have to do a thing.

Meanwhile, the iPhone, on the other hand, recognizes new messages at very best only every 15 minutes (what!!!) and you also have to check to see if anything has arrived. Obviously the Blackberry wins here especially as the act of having to actively check for email means wasted battery usage as you have to open the iPhone’s email program every single time you wish to check to see if you have a new email…Kapow! The iPhone 1.0 and 2.0 has been in the market now for a short while and has won the attraction of many users. However, one would expect some features to follow this high-tech gadget as it comes into the market in July. There are several features that Steve Jobs do not talk about when he launches this latest version of iPhone, identical to 2.0 version only with 3G and GPS on it. So what am I complaining about? Why do I just not get excited and tell everybody how great this new Apple gadget is?

Well, first of all, this is a cellphone, and should compete with other cellphones’ and their features and capabilities. It is just fair to let people know that there are cell phones in the market that can offer things that Apple iPhone can not. I am not saying that iPhone 3G is bad, oh no, I would say the opposite, it is a great all in one gadget, improved with its 3G and GPS ability, which maybe put it in the front line when it comes to smart cell phones. The recent launch of iphone4 stormed the smart phone market. So much was the effect that Apple Inc. said it took advance orders for more than 600,000 new iPhones world-wide on the first day the device became available, a flood of demand that caused difficulty processing orders at U.S. carrier AT&T Inc.

Apple said the preorders were the most ever taken by the company in a single day, and 10 times higher than for the iPhone 3GS last year.

AT&T had earlier suspended pre-orders of Apple’s iPhone 4 after the phone giant was unable to handle record demand for the product, and recent update is that it sold more than 1.7 million iPhone 4s within the first three days of the phone’s launch

Analysts have been expecting the new model to help Apple sell about 36 million iPhones in the year ending in September, up about 73% from 20.8 million a year earlier.

One of the great new features I am starting to enjoy on my BlackBerry Storm is the ability for it to play multimedia files and specifically audio (music).

First let’s take a look at the video and audio formats supported by BlackBerry Storm:

Video format support: MPEG4 H.263, MPEG4 Part 2 Simple Profile, H.264, WMV
Audio format support: MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, WMA ProPlus

Basically, when you buy music from iTunes, it comes with a copyright protection called DRM. These DRM-protected songs are locked so that they only work with Apple MP3 players. That means that if you have a BlackBerry Storm, you cannot use iTunes music.

So, what is the solution? You have to burn a CD. When you do this, the DRM is removed (because the music is converted to a non-DRM-compatible media). After you burn the CD, you can rip it to your PC as an MP3 file which no longer has DRM.  Read more...
